How would the American right feel about issuing an assault rifle and a driver's license to every 16-year-old?

Recent Facebook post below drew responses from conservative white former Alabama prosecutor Robert and white Alabama native John, whom I met when we both spent nights in Key West's homeless shelter. The damsel above is decked out for Key West's Fantasy Fest (Halloween).

Do American right love and trust guns more than God?

To me a firearm is a symbol of independence. They were used to establish this Country. The people who led the Revolution, were almost all Christians . They mention in the Declaration of Independence, a Creator. God, and Providence.

I believe Blacks should buy guns to protect themselves from other Blacks since statics show, 90% of violent crimes against Blacks are committed by other Blacks. ( Harvard Kennedy School)

How about blacks have guns also to protect themselves from certain cops and white supremacists? All of which begs the question of how do Christian Americans, black or white, square owing assault rifles with Jesus, Peter, Paul and Mary? I'm fine with all Americans having flintlock muzzleloaders, if they wish, to be in sync with the early American white settlers. Beyond that, it's kinda looking to me today like the wild west, except the guns have evolved far more that the gun toters.

A gun is like any tool. The person using the tool is the problem, if something bad happens, not the tool. Banning guns is like castrating yourself, because your neighbor has too many kids or taking cars away from good drivers, because their are bad drivers, who misuse their cars.

It is people who are the problem, not the firearm.

So you are ok, then, with blacks, browns, yellows, reds and liberal whites all having assault rifles and Glocks, to reach gun parity with conservative whites in America? Not parity, but superiority, as they outnumber conservative whites, based on presidential elections for quite a while.

I love gun rights people comparing cars to guns. Both are designed to kill, right?

Honestly the best option is to issue every US citizen the same handgun at 16 with a drivers license and level the playing field. Gun laws are pointless now that Pandora's box is already open. Guns are out there and no one is going to change that. We tried banning alcohol and drugs and got nowhere but debt, death and more crime.

Heh, I know some people a lot older than16, on the left and the right sides of the aisle, whom I think should never be allowed to have a hand gun, or any gun, but your suggestion sure would level the playing field. I wonder how the right side of the aisle would feel about every 16-year-old white liberal and every 16-year-old black, brown, yellow and red having a hand gun? I wonder how American law enforcement would feel about that? Well, how could gun lovers protest after all these years of comparing selling guns to issuing driver's licenses?

I'm sure it would get some dislikes. All I was saying is that it would level the playing field. You have to think twice before car jacking, robbing and attacking someone when you know they are also armed. As far as assault rifles are concerned. they are already out there so banning them only creates a criminal enterprise and black market. I doubt too many people are sitting in their underwear, in their mothers basement, covered in peanut butter saying "I wish I could get an assault rifle and kill a bunch of people but I cant find one now that they are banned. Guess I'll just sit here and cut myself". More likely they will just use a bomb or drive a truck into a crowd. You certainly aren't going to ban trucks or fertilizers. You can ban crazy.

I think you nailed it, almost. Instead of a hand gun, issue an assault rifle to every 16-year-old. That should cause the right side of the aisle to sleep well at night😎

Well you can't walk into a school and shoot up the place if everyone else has an assault rifle too. Or conversely, we can just stop giving these people any airtime in the news.
