Ya'll come!!! Mobile, Alabama cops love homeless people

    Comments
    • Sloan Bashinsky Gosh, don't show this to the Key West Police Department? The reader comments under the article are not terribly kind to these two officers.
      • Victor Clarke Don’t KW have a whole new squad of “One Human Family” police officers now ?
      • Sloan Bashinsky Yeah? Been away from KW since before Thanksgiving 2018, not privy to such matters, but I did hear from my homeless lady friend the other day that she and her homeless boyfriend both got camping ordinance violations citations from KWPD officers for sleeping on a blanket. Same outcome if sleeping on flattened cardboard box. I spent many nights in 2001 sleeping in a Fleming Street doorway on a flattened cardboard box. After 9/11, KWPD didn't allow it. As if I was a terrorist? Maybe somebody needs to modify Revelation in the New Testament, to warn Jesus not to come back homeless, it ain't fashionable no more.

      • Victor Clarke Jesus ain’t welcome here anymore

      • Sloan Bashinsky I especially enjoyed this reader comment:

When these people read A Christmas Carol and Scrooge suggests that society would be better off letting the poor people die rather than extending a helping hand, do they nod and think “now here’s a guy who really gets it!”

        And this one:

        Matthew 25:

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
      • Victor Clarke This was America .....

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore."

      • Image may contain: one or more people
      • Victor Clarke Send Them back to their “Shithole” Countries
      • Sloan Bashinsky You wandered onto a different topic.
      • Victor Clarke No .....The huddled masses yearning to be free the wretched refuse of teeming shores ......are/were Homeless !!!!!
      • Sloan Bashinsky Oops. Yet, those homeless people were/are immigrants looking to start new lives, including finding a place to live inside and getting a job and blending into American society and pursuing life, liberty and happiness. The many homeless people I have known were headed downward, or had already gotten there. They seemed more like what Jesus referred to in the parable of the sheep and the goats, yet perhaps they were even more down and out, in the main. Key West likes to give homeless people a one-way Greyhound ticket to the mainland, and there is a steady revolving population of homeless people in the nearby county jail.

Alabama cops gloat over "quilt" made from cardboard signs confiscated from homeless people over Christmas

In this photo posted to Facebook, two police officers from Mobile, Alabama pose with a "quilt" made from cardboard signs confiscated from homeless people in the area over the Christmas break.
“Wanna wish everybody in the 4th precinct a Merry Christmas, especially our captain," says the caption to the posting. “Hope you enjoy our homeless quilt. Sincerely Panhandler patrol.”
Al.com names the two grinning officers as Preston McGraw and Alexandre Olivier, and points out that the photo was taken in a police department office. It was first posted to Officer McGraw's page, but has been shared widely since.
Mobile Police Department has not responded to a request for comment. AL.com also emailed every city council member for comment. No one has yet responded.
Since being posted online the image has been shared more than 10,000 times and has over 3,000 comments. Many comments claim the image to be in poor taste, especially during the holiday season.

swamp creatures and fruit flies: politicians

    Ian Frazer, artist

The indefabible Sancho Panza swooped in after reading yesterday's No Malarkey, Mr. Biden? fool's errand at this blog:
I must be getting really old, feeling like I've seen this show a thousand times already... anybody who votes Democrat because, they are Democrats, or Republican, because they are Republicans, ought to be lobotomized.... first of all, there are no more Democrats or Republicans... they are all pretty much swamp creatures competing for real estate in the muck! Second, the so called media, are part of the con act that perpetuates this narrative of US vs THEM to keep the fans rooting for their "Team".

Sloan, you're not a Demorat... I have no idea what you are... you gave lots of money(the max.allowed) of the little you had, to the Obama campaign, some would say: "that's partisan", I don't agree, I just think maybe you don't value money as others do and give it away freely to all kinds of people. 😊 But I think you do value your prose and most of it is used to castigate one group of swamp creatures and not the other, my guess is that you're carefully pandering to your liberal daughters, etc.... but the truth is you don't like any politician, period!

Happy New Year... may the force be with you!

A true lover of wisdom has hands too busy to hold on to anything! He learns by doing and every pebble in the path becomes her teacher!  Oink

    Don Quixote sallied forth:
I suppose this show's been played since the beginning of human time on this planet.

Yep, I got smozzled and gave the promissor of hope and change $2,300, and shortly after the anesthesia wore off I tried several times to get a refund, including a letter to Obama himself, and nothing came back. Not long after, I was told in my sleep that Obama had the potential to be the AntiChrist. I published all of that on my blogs, and you voted for him anyway. After Obama won a home in the Offal Orifice, he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize, which he accepted, even though he was continuing President George W. Bush's two rich white men's wars for corporate profit. My bowel locked up and I barely pooped for a month, and then violent poetry erupted out of me about what President Obama had done, and my pooper had its own eruption and I felt much better. I wrote about that to President Obama, at the suggestion of one of his devotees, and nothing came back.

I think some of the news media tries to get the facts straight, but that's pretty tough to do when politicians don't seen particularly in love with facts that don't make their poop smell nice. And, yes, some news media, on both sides of the center, and probably in the center, do seem to have the spinning sickness from  time to time, and more often, depending on how bad they are addicted to spinning. My favorite politicians were Socrates and Jesus, who didn't rest well in peace after corrupting the youth and older people against the hallowed status quo and its hardened concrete-in-rebar ways. I ain't for sure myself what I am, but it ain't Democrat or Republican. My daughters and their husbands and children see my rumininatings on Facebook and hear them when we are together. As long as swamp creatures swim and crawl around on land, I suppose I won't run out of  things to write about. I do value money, most especially when it runs out and I live on the street.

Perhaps the alien invasion won't be called off again, and then you and I will have plenty of new excitements to ponder and yelp  about.

    Sancho croaked:
Form and Function, baby.... have you ever noticed how these tiny fruit flies always appear from out of nowhere when overripe fruit is around?  As Spock would say, "Fascinating."

    Don Q burped:
Hmmm, is that an allegory for how politicians came to be, or Donald Trump? Heh.

[Sancho told me a while back that he voted for Trump 'cause Obama had been such a big disappointment and Trump, hopefully, would wreck everything and then perhaps something different, if not actually good, would rise from the rubble. I voted for Jill Stein 'cause she seemed something like a real person who valued helping people and Mother Nature.]

    No Malarkey, Mr. Biden?

This former Alabama practicing attorney thinks if VP Joe Biden used his office to help his son do business in Ukraine, then President Trump had a duty to have that investigated by US law enforcement, the FBI, I suppose. Instead, it appears Trump squeezed Ukraine’s President to investigate, and did that turn up any wrongdoing by VP Biden? If not, why would the Republican-controlled US Senate subpoena him? That aside, if "No Malarkey" presidential candidate Joe Biden did nothing wrong, why isn't he demanding to testify before the Senate and out the Republicans' "No Show" President Trump? Imagine the political hay the Democrats could pitchfork with that! [For anyone who thinks I'm a Democrat, I didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, either.]

    From The New York Times:

Biden, Reversing Position, Says He Would Comply With Impeachment Subpoena

    By Thomas Kaplan

    Published Dec. 28, 2019
    Updated Dec. 29, 2019, 1:04 a.m. ET

FAIRFIELD, Iowa — Joseph R. Biden Jr. backtracked on Saturday from his stated position that he would not comply with a subpoena to testify in President Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate. Instead, he declared that he would abide by “any subpoena that was sent to me” even as he insisted there was no justification for calling him as a witness.

A day after reaffirming that he would not comply with a subpoena, Mr. Biden tried twice on Saturday to clarify his remarks, asserting that there would be no “legal basis” for such a subpoena but left it unclear, for much of the day, if he would ultimately comply with one. Then, questioned by a voter about the issue of compliance with subpoenas, Mr. Biden answered unequivocally.

“I would obey any subpoena that was sent to me,” he said at a town hall-style event in Fairfield.

Mr. Biden’s 180-degree turn on whether he would comply with a subpoena was one of the starkest and swiftest reversals by a candidate in the Democratic primary campaign, and came after he faced questions and criticism about whether his initial stand would run counter to the rule of law.

Mr. Biden’s varied responses to a hypothetical question, in which he had criticized himself for drawing attention to in the first place, played out from a series of tweets on Saturday morning to remarks to reporters early in the afternoon to his answer in Fairfield on Saturday night.

The issue loomed over his campaign as he courted Iowa voters on a two-day swing, joining several other candidates under a gray, rainy sky as they returned to the state just over five weeks before the nominating caucuses.

On Saturday morning, Mr. Biden wrote on Twitter that he wanted to “clarify” comments he had made on Friday, when he met with the editorial board of The Des Moines Register, whose endorsement in the Iowa caucuses is highly sought after by presidential candidates.

Mr. Biden was asked by The Register whether he stood by previous comments that he would not comply with a subpoena to testify in the impeachment trial. He said he did, and explained that complying with a subpoena and testifying would effectively allow Mr. Trump to shift attention onto Mr. Biden and away from the president’s own conduct. Mr. Biden made similar comments to reporters aboard his campaign bus on Friday night.

On Saturday morning, Mr. Biden elaborated on Twitter: “I am just not going to pretend that there is any legal basis for Republican subpoenas for my testimony in the impeachment trial. That is the point I was making yesterday and I reiterate: this impeachment is about Trump’s conduct, not mine.”

He also wrote that over the course of his decades-long political career, he had “always complied with a lawful order,” and that in his two terms as vice president, his office had “cooperated with legitimate congressional oversight requests.”

Speaking to reporters after a town hall-style event in Tipton, Mr. Biden said he had “no firsthand knowledge” about the accusations against Mr. Trump, so there was “no basis” for calling him as a witness. But, he added, “I would honor whatever the Congress in fact legitimately asked me to do.”

Asked if he would challenge a subpoena in court, he responded: “The answer is, I don’t think that’s going to happen to begin with. Let’s cross that bridge when it comes.” He added that he would abide by “whatever was legally required of me.”

One of Mr. Biden’s top rivals for the Democratic nomination, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, also weighed in on Saturday, telling reporters in Des Moines, “If there is a lawfully issued order for a subpoena, then he should follow it.”

The House impeached Mr. Trump this month over his campaign to pressure Ukraine to investigate Mr. Biden and his son Hunter Biden.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California has said she would not formally send the articles of impeachment to the upper chamber until she had assurances that the trial would be conducted fairly.

As he spoke to reporters in Tipton, Mr. Biden seemed to fault himself for creating a story line in the news media that continued on Saturday. Mr. Biden observed that “this is going to be the news today” and added that he was “criticizing myself,” not the news media.

“I shouldn’t even have answered the question,” he said. “Because in answering the question, now there’s going to be another round. We’re not talking about: What did Trump do?”

Traveling around Iowa in his “No Malarkey” campaign bus, Mr. Biden held three town hall-style events on Saturday, fielding questions from the audience at each one. At an event in Washington, Iowa, one attendee asked Mr. Biden if he would nominate former President Barack Obama to the Supreme Court.

“If he’d take it, yes,” Mr. Biden responded.
