Looks to me the Republican Party lost its moral compass after it became crystal clear Trump never had one

For some time, a Republican childhood friend has called Donald Trump, "The Orange Turd." Yesterday, my friend emailed this below  to several people.

GARY COSBY JR.: Insurrection of the deceived causes chaos at the Capitol

President Trump's baseless claims of voter fraud inspired a riot in the nation's capitol, interrupting the certification of the national election.

I opened the link, read Cosby's editorial, reproduced below, which just might get him lynched, literally, in Alabama.

I replied to All.

Amen, I have seen other spot on Gary Cosby opinions. Looks to me the Republican Party lost its moral compass after it became crystal clear Trump never had one.

GARY COSBY JR.: Insurrection of the deceived causes chaos at the Capitol

The Tuscaloosa News

 January 10, 2022

To think I was going to write about amen and a-woman today, then a bunch of Trumpers descended upon the nation’s Capitol in what is the most embarrassing display of willful ignorance I have ever witnessed. I almost felt sorry for them because they are so badly deceived, but if one swallows a lie hook, line and sinker and denies he or she has done so despite plentiful evidence to the contrary, then one deserves to be reeled in.

And make no mistake; all those folks who thought themselves patriots are nothing of the sort. They worked to tear down the democracy for which they pretend they were rioting to support. All that was missing from Washington, D.C., on January 6 was hob-nailed boot wearing brown-shirt brigades sporting swastikas on their sleeves.

These people bought into a man whom they badly wished to believe, so badly in fact they were willing to swallow blatant lies, lies that have been refuted at every level by every person who has examined the election with any degree of integrity. Every court in the United States that has been presented an election challenge has dismissed the case. Election officials from both parties say the election was run properly, including those who work directly for Donald Trump. Every single claim of election fraud has come from Trump or his subordinate media allies who were doing nothing more than parroting his lie.

Lies produce chaos, and make no mistake, President Donald J. Trump has done nothing but spread lies relating to this election, beginning months before the first ballot was cast. He made it his mission to create as much chaos before, during and after this election as possible with absolutely no evidence upon which to hang his claims. He cooked up baseless allegations and spread them through social media and various public statements without the slightest bit of truth to any of them. His actions have been so transparent I don’t understand how anyone couldn’t see through them.

He spent four years in office and a year on the campaign trail prior to that feeding a certain segment of American society a steady diet of distrust of media sources he didn’t like. He did this with purpose and intent because liars do not like people around who will expose their lies. Trump’s history is replete with examples of his dishonesty, yet many conservatives willingly bought the lies, became angrier and angrier, and now those lies produced a riot by badly deceived people invading the nation’s Capitol to prevent our elected representatives from putting the final certification on the national election.

If you are a conservative voter, what happened Jan. 6  could not possibly be worse. These Trumpers have undermined the chances of Republican candidates to win elections for years to come. Voters were watching today and any normal person should be completely disgusted by what we witnessed. Don’t think voters will forget when the next election cycles come around. This episode will leave an indelible mark on the public consciousness.

I wrote before that the Republican Party should distance itself as rapidly as possible from Trump and now you all see why. Over the last couple of years, I have received frequent emails from Trump supporters angry about my stances against him. Now you can see why I wrote what I did. It was never about his politics. It has always been about his lack of character and the hate and lies he is spreading and inspiring. At least now it is painfully evident that character matters.
