mail-in voting: Republicans are as likely to lie, cheat and steal, as Democrats

President Trump, Mitch McConnell, the Republicans and the MAGAS want voters to go to the polls or vote by absentee ballot, and Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats want that and mail-in ballots, assuming there is an election this November.

Two Facebook threads posted by Alabama Republicans:

Agreed, but there is a big difference in Absentee paper ballots and Universal mail in ballots proposed.
      1. Absentee ballots are requested by registered voters, mailed to address matching the request, signatures verified between the req
uest and ballot before the ballot is verified and counted.
      2. Universal mail in ballots are dropped mailed to the last known addresses of registered voters. No effort to verify the addressees still live at their last voting address or that they are still living or may de disqualified from voting due to a felony conviction.
      3. Probate office has responsibilities for reviewing and verifying all absentee votes. This process is carried out in the presence of representatives of every political party listed on the ballot. Challenges to ballots are made at this time. These challenges are submitted to probate judges for decisions to count or exclude. Appeals from probate judge's decisions may be made to state/federal courts of appeal.
      4. Universal mail in ballots will overwhelm the current verification system. Instead of verifying thousands of absentee votes, you will have to verify millions of mail in ballots.
Trump is correct when he predicts no election decision for weeks/months or years.
      5. Since Trump/Pence relinquish their presidential powers in January, 2021, who becomes president with no election decision?
      6. Since the Electoral College will be unable to cast ballots to elect the President/Vice President, the election issue will be settled in the House of Representatives.
      7. Who will Nancy Pelosi elect with 51% of the Congressional votes?
    • Sloan Bashinsky So, you agree with Trump, no elections in November, no election until their is a proven vaccine and every voter in America has being given it?

Colorado has used mail in ballots for a while.

      Great information !

Trump raised the Question of delay in the November election. He has no power to delay the election but certainly wishes everyone would consider what will happen if we use Universal Mail Ballots. We can't rid our voting rolls of the dead and lost voters under charges of voter suppression. What guarantees do we have that the person signing a Universal mail ballot is the proper voter? Show me the oversight.
    • Sloan Bashinsky I figure Trump, Republicans and MAGAs are not fretting over dead Republicans and MAGAs mailing in their votes.
    • Sloan Bashinsky Could add to that list dead Klans, Nazis, Neo-Nazis, Confederate Flag worshipers.
    • Sloan Bashinsky I figure they will cancel out votes from dead Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, Independents, Communists, Antifas, etc.

And this:
Public Service Announcement - If you are concerned about going to the polls to vote on Nov. 3 due to Covid (or afraid you may die of Covid before Nov. 3), you can go to the Elections Office in your county any time from Sept. 9 to Oct. 29 to cast your absentee ballot in person there. So there is no need to do mail-in absentee voting and worry about the mail if you are willing to make a trip there. Our Probate Judges  and the Elections Office are working very hard to make sure voting goes as smoothly as possible. Kudos for their efforts.

  • Sloan Bashinsky Absentee ballot also can be ordered by mail, and returned by mail, has to be received by election official by noon of election day.

  • Sloan Bashinsky But has fear of Covid-19 been ruled good cause to use absentee ballot? I'm gonna put on my mask and drive over to my designated voting precinct and vote. Won't be much different from going to grocery store, Walmart, Home Depot.
    • Fran Harwell Sloan Bashinsky I guess it’s for people we are going to be out of town or who limit outings to absolutely essential ones.
    • Sloan Bashinsky Looks like any Alabama registered voter can get an absentee ballot by citing pandemic a reason:

    • Sloan Bashinsky Voting is not an essential outing? But going to Walmart, church, a protest, political rally is? :-)
    • Fran Harwell Don’t be obtuse Sloan. Of course it’s essential. But if you are elderly and have health issues getting food call a prescription at Walmart is more essential. And for some people going to church is an essential part of their mental and therefore physical well-being. Not for me but I do understand for others it’s a different story
    • Sloan Bashinsky I know that, Fran. I"m 77, have history of respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia. Have other medical conditions, But I still get around. Am not bed-ridden. Not on oxygen. My blood pressure and pulse are pretty good. Take no meds of any kind. Am fortunate there. Old people taking various medications barely able to function certainly should not take any risks. I'm fine with absentee voting, for anyone. I'm fine with mail in ballots. If there is abuse, it will be from all quarters and will average out. If China backs Biden and Russia backs Trump again, that will wash out. What's important is every voter is encouraged to vote and it's made easy to vote. My dilemma is not how I vote but who do I vote for? I don't like what I see for a choice. Had same problem in 2016 and 2012, and before that.
    • Fran Harwell The problem with mail in votes is there can easily be filled out by anyone and if we looked who has done the most cheating in the past that may not be as balanced as you are assuming. Absentee ballots on the other hand Are filled out by the individual voter with information that others would be less likely to have access to. Less potential for fraud. And since this election is more contentious and people are more polarized now than ever I think every effort to minimize cheating should be engaged And since this election is more contentious and people are more polarized now than ever I think every effort to minimize cheating should be engaged.
    • Sloan Bashinsky I know the difference between absentee and mail in votes, Fran. I also know, because I'm 77 years old and have been around the block many times, including practicing law in Birmingham and running 10 times for public office in the Florida Keys, as an Independent, that Republicans are as likely to lie, cheat and steal, as Democrats.
