Palm Sunday: Time to review The Screwtape Letters?

Georgia's Republican Governor Brian Kemp claimed he issued a state-wide stay home order because he only had just learned infected people showing no symptoms can be contagious. Kemp then ordered all Georgia beaches reopened, rescinding local coastal municipalities' orders to close their beaches.

Mayor of Georgia coastal town assails governor's 'reckless mandate' to reopen the state's beaches

CNN)Tybee Island, one of Georgia's most popular vacation destinations, depends on beachgoers to keep the town's economy alive.
But in an effort to curb the coronavirus, the city council voted to close the beaches March 20. The town went so far as to put up barricades and signs to keep beachgoers away.

The town's good intentions were upended on Thursday when Gov. Brian P. Kemp issued a statewide shelter-in-place executive order which supersedes all local orders relating to coronavirus -- and also opened up the state's beaches.

The governor put Tybee Island back in the beach business -- whether the town liked it or not.

Tybee Island Mayor Shirley Sessions fired back on Saturday, issuing a statement saying she and the town council don't want the beaches reopened now.

"As the Pentagon ordered 100,000 body bags to store the corpses of Americans killed by the Coronavirus, Governor Brian Kemp dictated that Georgia beaches must reopen, and declared any decision-makers who refused to follow these orders would face prison and/or fines," Sessions' statement read.

"Tybee City Council and I are devastated by the sudden directives and do not support his decisions. The health of our residents, staff and visitors are being put at risk and we will pursue legal avenues to overturn his reckless mandate."

" It seems that we fell asleep in one world and woke up in another...

Suddenly , Disney is out of it's magic, Paris is no longer romantic, the Chinese wall is no longer a fortress, and Mecca is empty.

Hugs and kisses are unwelcome. Not visiting parents and friends has become an act of love. Suddenly , you realize that power, beauty and money mean nothing and that you can't even guarantee the oxygen you breathe.
The world continues it's life and it is beautiful. Only humans are in cages. Mother earth appears to be sending us a clear message : " You are not necessary, The air, earth, water and sky are all fine without you. Democrat Mayor of Key West Teri Johnston and Democrat Mayor of Monroe County (Florida Keys) Heather Carruthers made all tourists leave and hotels and motels and non-essential businesses close, restaurants and bars take out only, and beaches closed and social distancing enforced. Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay stationed deputies at the top of the Keys to turn back anyone not a resident of or bringing essential supplies and/or services into the Florida Key, have growing numbers of coronavirus infections and some deaths.
SECOND COVID-19 RELATED DEATH IN MONROE: DOH stated in a press release that the person who died is a 55-year-old male who had "co-morbidities." The evening report reveals that he had been added to the DOH case list on March 26th...☹️

    • Sloan Bashinsky I am hearing from Key West that, of the local news media, the blue paper provides the most informative coronavirus information and updates.
I think Key West Mayor Teri Johnston, Monroe County Mayor Heather Carruthers and Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay took very needed swift, decisive action, while the rest of Florida wobbled.
I think for every confirmed local coronavirus infection in Key West and the Keys, there are a few or more local unconfirmed infections. If the virus takes 14 days to incubate, I think it medically prudent to wait for at 28 days of no new confirmed local infections before relaxing restrictions on local residents and businesses.
As for the Sheriff’s roadblock at the top of US 1 and Card Sound Road in Florida City, given the wobbly state of affairs throughout Florida and above, I think it could be quite a while before it’s medically safe to end the road block. I can imagine contrary views from local businesses, Chambers of Commerce, the Tourist Development Council and some local government officials.
All of America faces the same dilemma. But all of America is not stuck at the end of one road going in and out. If the virus gets loose in Key West and the Keys, like it has gotten loose in New York City, a higher ratio of people in Key West and the Keys might die, because of the closed container and medical care there is not nearly as complete and advanced as medical care on the mainland. If the virus kills a lot of people in Key West and the Keys, it might be a while before anyone wants to visit there.

    • David Jackson
David Jackson Apparently KW people are still partying. Just saw a post from a KW band member hanging with others hanging with arms around each other. Apparently we're going to cull the herd down there.
    • Chris Rudl
Chris Rudl So they banned the tourists and residents can’t police themselves. Comical
      • Mike Firth
Mike Firth someones death is comical? Wow.
      • Chris Rudl
Chris Rudl Mike Firth that’s not comical. The push for residents and county officials to kick out tourists combined with thier poor behavior is comical
      • April Quesada McKenzie
April Quesada McKenzie Chris Rudl I’m sure it was too late and there is nothing comical about people dying period
      • Chris Rudl
Chris Rudl April Quesada McKenzie never argued the comical nature of people dying. I was in the keys through last week after the tourists left and I saw groups everywhere. What I was arguing was comical is the residents were so hasty to kick out tourists but are exhibiting behavior that is poor. All the cases of covid have come long after tourists have left🤔

Chris Rudl April Quesada McKenzie I’m back in Orlando. For what it’s worth people are still acting reckless up here as well😢

The March 26 post below got delayed reaction from a naysayer and someone who said she is an 8-year military veteran who was trained to recognize signs of bio warfare:

Danny Richardson What a bunch of horseshit
  • Shanna Shah-nuh Clark Danny Richardson what a bunch of horseshit that you think it's some kind of virus yet it's airborne and in our ocean common Sense tells you it's biochemical warfare take that from eight year vet that was actually trained to recognize the signs of biochemical warfare
  • A Fool's Work Never Ends Shanna Shah-nuh Clark Appreciate your veteran perspective. I'm convinced President Trump agrees with you, but so far has not deigned, or figured out how, or when, or if ever to tell the American public what he and U.S. military and intelligence services know. Perhaps he's worried lots of Americans will say he's full of horseshit, he's crazy. Or, he doesn't want to really piss off China, which could cut off Chinese pharmaceutical drugs and other essential products manufactured in China and sold in America. China could call, or dump, America's $1-plus trillion debt owed to China. China could have sleeper agents in America release more coronavirus and other bioweapons in America. MAGAs, Republicans, Democrats and Independents would give Trump bloody hell for not telling them the truth up front, and demand he kick China's butt in any and all ways he has at his disposal. China, and Russia not wanting to cross nearby China, reveal what their military and intelligence services know about US bioweapon labs and stockpiles.Shades of Dr. Strangelove!
Shanna "liked" my reply to her.
