Christian antivaxxers' God-given right help their children catch Covid-19 and give it to other people and die

According to this lady's Facebook page, she is Christian, Mother and Grandmother, Author, Unapologetic Conservative #StandWithSheil, and did time in the Tennessee Senate.

My tenet is that we have a God given right to choose what goes into our own bodies and the bodies of our children.

There were reams of comments, here's a small ream.

Sloan Bashinsky
And you have a God-given right to die because you did not get vaccinated. You do not have a God-given right to cause your children to be injured or killed, nor do you have a God- given right to medical treatment if you remain unvaccinated and catch C19.
Am visiting one of my daughters, who has two school age children. Where she lives, schools can require masks. Just across the state line, in a much redder state, schools did not require masks. Schools in the county just across the state line opened and right away had 5 percent of students test positive, and that school district closed its schools and went to virtual teaching students who now stayed at home.

Sloan Bashinsky Bravo Bravo Bravo stupid is strong in America

Debby
Finally!!! Republicans have become pro choice!! I love it!!

Jennifer
Are we not our brother's keeper? I think That did come out of the bible, just SAYIN'

Amy
First it is not a god given right. It is a public health issue - think polio, small pox etc.

Kramer
It’s a God given right you’ll be going into the ground someday but in the meantime you might want to save yourself

Kevin
Not to infect and possibly kill your fellow humans

Randy
Troll

Barbara
so I am guessing you never went to public schools and got any vaccines for any other medical things that were pandemics... ? just stay in your house 4 ever and not ask for any government assistance please

Mardella
Sloan it’s not often I agree with you but right on!

Jane
I hear banjos......Hopefully it will hit home soon on this deplorable ????

Sherry
That's great, so long as your choices only affect YOU. If you want to choose not to pursue cancer treatment, say, or you want to get an abortion, or you choose to get a tattoo or a piercing, fine. Once your personal choices bleed into public health, though, you have a responsibility to make choices based on what's best for the community. So, if you choose to drink or get high in your own home, fine, but if you get behind the wheel, you're putting MY life at risk, and I do not agree to that. If you choose not to get vaccinated, but you're staying home and out of public places, fine, but if you're in the grocery store or the post office unvaxxed and without a mask, you're putting MY life at risk, and I do not agree to that.

Rich
As long as you also accept the tenet that the rest of society may exclude you because your choices will kill others.

David
It’s not just about you and your children. It effects everybody else.
You don’t have a God-given right to pee on the sidewalk, and you don’t have a God-given right to infect other people.
We are all in this together and we have to think it was best for everyone, the whole community.

Grace
Please stay inside so those of us who care about science and also living can be free from you. We’ve stayed put for far longer than we’ve really needed to because of people like you already.
If you believe in God-given rights, know that you are literally hindering my very basic right to be free.

Jessica
The Supreme Court made quite clear in Jacobson v Massachusetts over a hundred years ago that states can indeed mandate vaccination for the public good.
Yesterday, they affirmed that decision in Klassen v Indiana University with regard to institutional vaccine mandates.
I.e., they concluded that you do *not* have a God-given right to refuse vaccination mandates.

Jason
So you choose to give a deadly virus free reign inside your body? And you have no concern for your neighbor.

Ashley
It’s all bunk and the doctors are lying quacks until you’re the one in the ICU and then it’s me, me, me. Beyond selfish.

Daniel
So, you can start singing 'Nearer my God to thee' for your whole family

Terrye
400 children had to be quarantined in Palm Beach within 2 days of starting school. It seems to me that there are a lot of people out there who are not doing a great job of taking care of themselves or their children. And that impacts all of us.

Brooke
You DO have these rights. But if you refuse to do what’s right for community health, then the community also the right to not allow you to endanger others in the community. Check out the 10th Amendment to our Constitution, or…you’re most welcome to remove yourself from the community by living in a cabin in the woods, homeschooling your kids

Joy
That's your choice and it’s fine. But stay home. Stay out of groups. Don’t go to restaurants. Wear a mask if you must go out.
It is my right that my immunosuppressed husband and my grand children are safe and do not die because of your “God given right”.
Consequences come with choices.

Audra
Jesus would want you to not only espouse that you love your neighbor but he’d also want you to show it by getting vaccinated and wearing a mask. In no version of the Bible was Jesus like, “Bro. Just think of yourself and screw everyone else.” Get it together.

Robert
If you don’t want to get the vaccine fine! Stay home and away from me and my family... if your child is unvaccinated for a number of diseases they can’t go to school... with your rights come responsibilities... stop being selfish Karen!

Lana
Some people cannot take the vaccine due to their other health issues just putting this out there. Just be kind!!!

Carol
How great to hear that you are pro-choice and support the right for a woman to choose abortion if that is best for her body!

Sean
Your "god given rights" end where they overlap with public safety. You have the right not to be vaccinated and businesses, schools, public spaces have a right to keep you out for not being vaccinated. Look at the COVID numbers where other people feel the same as you. Do you ever get tired of being wrong?

Maren
You do if you live alone on an island. Until you do that, you belong to a community that works together to keep each other safe, which includes vaccines, and police, stop lights, etc.

Bruce
Go ahead. But don’t expect to also be part of society. If you or your kids aren’t vaccinated, no movies, no eating out, no going to church. Etc. why? Because WE have a right to protect ourselves from dangerous people like you. Your choice.

Kena
Your right ends when it endangers others.

Lynnea
I read these exchanges and one thing I see in common is that those who vax and mask have a greater sense of commitment and responsibility to their community and a desire to protect people they do not even know and those who are opposed are not and seem to only care about themselves, their rights, their health and there is nothing that will make them care about others. The carers become angry as they see the unvaxxed as a threat to others and a burden on healthcare and the unvaxxed are angry as they see the carers as trying to force them to do something that they have no desire to do.

Tom
Your rights extend all the way until they violate everyone else's.

Jacki
I wish the healthcare workers that are exhausted taking care of you, had the same rights but we take care of everyone, regardless of your decisions that impact negatively on our lives.

MB
As much as we like to think that rights are God given, they aren’t. Governments extend to us the rights we have in society. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any written list of God given rights.

Stephen
I agree. I also agree that if you’re unvaccinated you need to stay home. You have no god-given right to jeopardize the health and safety of others.

Jennifer
Been getting vaccines since I was s little girl going to live in France. I'm 74 years old now and thank God for the

Christine
God doesn't give legal rights. He gave Adam and Eve the right to make mistakes and suffer the consequences.

Terri
While it's a shame that you won't take simple, scientifically proven precautions to safeguard your own child, you do not have the right to put others at risk.

Lorraine
Your rights are co-dependent with our rights. Our right to live supersedes you petty little trump ego. Get over it.

Justin
As long as you live in the woods and away from a community.

Catie
Sure but when you get sick don’t come to the hospital and take away medical resources from ppl who didn’t choose anything—just wait for God at home.

George
We also have a “god-given right” to be incredibly stupid, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea!
