Winter Solstice, the coming of the light: first, take the beam out your own eye

Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, in ancient lore, called The Coming of the Light.

Imagine what humanity would be like, if every person were stood by angels in front of mirrors for the rest of their lives. Imagine what Donald Trump would be like, if that were done to him. Imagine what Joe Biden would be like, if that were done to him. Imagine what you would be like, if that were done to you.

An old friend replied to the abortion part of the If Donald Trump was sent by God to save America from Godless Democrats, socialists, communists, then why come God didn't get Trump reelected? post at this blog:

Sloan,

I note repeatedly you have stated that you know of NO ONE who ever offered to take responsibility for a child if the mother would agree not to abort.

You've known me more than 30 years.  During that time, I recall mentioning  more than once that Marty and I offered to pay medical bills (this was back in the 70's when pregnancy and delivery charges often were NOT covered by insurance at all  - but were affordable for most people - as in a flat $150 for doctor visits monitoring pregnancy up through delivery, $350 or less for 4 - 6 days for mom and babe in the hospital, $10/day pediatrician charge for checking baby - affordable), and then to adopt and raise the child, IF the mother would see the pregnancy through.  And not just once did we do this.  Each time, nope, the expectant mother wanted an abortion and traveled to Kansas City (as abortion was not legal in Illinois at the time).  So, yes, you most certainly DO know of someone who has offered this.

Today, on our tiny fixed retirement Social Security, such is no longer possible.  Pregnancy and delivery can cost upward of $20,000..... but  when we were financially able to make such an offer, we absolutely DID.   You DO know someone who has presented this offer to pregnant moms, more than once, when we were able to afford to make such offers.  Rather than having 3 children (now adults) we might have had 6, had our offers been accepted.

I replied:

Here is what was in that post about abortion:

Derrick: ..... How can you even speak on religion when your for a party that is pro choice. Trump is one of the most pro life presidents we have ever had. He created the conscience and religious freedom division in the department of health. Maybe you have this backwards, maybe God is telling us to stand with Trump or we will walk out of God's life.

I'm not a Democrat. See my comments to Sally below this conversation. I do not care for abortion. However, I have yet to know one pro-lifer who adopted an unwanted baby to prevent abortion. Who gave money to a pregnant woman, who didn't want her child, so that she could raise and provide for the child.

I really don't recall that you told me what you wrote to me today. That's a hellava saga, which every pro-lifer ought to live, to have standing to shriek against abortion. I have never viewed you as a pro-lifer, ie. shrieker views Roe v. Wade as murdering babies, the work of the Devil, and I think Derrick is one of those shriekers.

I replied further this morning:

I think the Democrats, in the main, went off the reservation by sanctioning late term abortions on demand, as opposed to the mother or the fetus were seriously at risk. I think pregnant women should be allowed to have early term abortions, if that is their choice. In the big scheme, abortion is between a pregnant woman and God, and does any person know when the soul attaches to a fetus?

The only biblical authority is in Genesis, where God breathed into Adam's nostrils, and Adam became a living being. Were I a lawyer arguing the pro-choice side in a court, I would call Bible scholars as witnesses and ask them about that Bible passage, then I would call anti-abortion shriekers as witnesses, and establish through them that the Bible is the inerrant, literal word of God, and then I would hand them a Bible and ask them to read that passage in Genesis to the judge.

Back in the late 1980s, as I was pondering the abortion war then raging, and was writing THE HIGH LEGAL ROAD, which, as you know, is about projection vs. looking inside, I wondered if pro-life fanatics, in their childhood, had very rough experiences that caused them to feel they had been murdered, and when they grew up that played out in their frantic pro life crusade? On the other side, I wondered if pro-choice fanatics, in their childhood, had very rough experiences that caused them to feel they had no say in anything, and when they grew up that played out in their frantic pro-choice crusade?

I think it is generally accepted in mental health circles that fanaticism belies deep psychological disturbance rooted in something unrelated to what has gotten a fanatic all revved up. Jesus said in the Gospels, to first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from someone else's eye. The angels stood me before many mirrors while I wrote THE HIGH LEGAL ROAD, and it wasn't a whole lot of fun. They stood me in front of a lot more mirrors as the years passed. They do it now. I imagine they will keep doing it.

Imagine what humanity would be like, if every person were stood by angels in front of mirrors for the rest of their lives. Imagine what Donald Trump would be like, if that were done to him. Imagine what Joe Biden would be like, if that were done to him. Imagine what you would be like, if that were done to you.
